Stripping the Mordex

Post by Loop Erimder »

It actually works :Sun:

Seeing the speedia stripped by dettol I tried it myself on the Mordex merlin.
Remember to purchase the right stuff though not the green stuff in the trigger spray bottle like I did, it's not strong enough. You need the brown stuff in the screw top bottle.

Nice one Loop, the green stuff in the big bottle from Asda didn't work on my Scientific Angler fly reel but I reckon it was because it was powder coated rather than painted

I bought the Mordex merlin ages ago, it was cheap and I used it once, a tiny wobble but that didn't bother me. Now its been stripped cleaned and oiled and has that look to it, i think I'm going to enjoy using it a bit more. I lost the badge on the back plate throught the soaking in dettol but I'm not concerned about that, maybe I'll take it to an engravers and have Mordex Merlin etched in........One day maybe

The Mordex looks better without any paint in my honest opinion :tea:

Indeed the Mordex does look better that way, the first time I've ever felt that about the stripped look. Brings out the resemblance to the Aerial much more strongly, Mordex did tend to slap the paint on a bit thick and many of them have got repainted down the years. I think Evert might be able to do you a new transfer.

I suspect it could be “love”, despite its drawbacks in the rhyming department.
