Foster Brothers of Ashbourne "The Airsprite"

Good evening gentlemen,

I would like to share another of my treasures with you:

It is an Foster Brothers of Ashbourne "The Airsprite" fly fishing rod. I use it with an Allcocks Marvel reel with a #4 or #5 silk fly line.
It is (I guess) in original condition - I only added new varnish.

Does anyone know the value of such a rod?

Regards,
Christopher

The best person to ask would be TFF member StephenWoolley ... who worked as a rod builder for Foster's ... and now has his own rod building and restoring business :-

You must know Stephen, Sir. You sold me the spare tip section three or four months ago. It will become this winter's project. I'm very glad to be honored having the opportunity keeping it original. Can't wait for spring to christen it. It is still usable but has a weak or delaminated tip. As soon as I stripped it I will let you know.

Kindest regards,
Chris

I just thought I should upload a picture I made lately when fishing with this rod now the tip is replaced and a reel and silk line finally found. The combination is lovely balanced around the index finger and fishes like a dream. So far only little dace/rudd/roach but I am hoping for a trout soon. Maybe I should head to a reservoir with stockies to try some dry fly fishing as in my local river that doesn't really want to work.

Thanks for looking chaps :Hat:

Lovely tackle and a great photo Chris, it reminds me of a stretch of the river Tees at Barnard Castle.

But certainly containing more fishes Wal. :Chuckle:

I was pretty happy having a little camera with me this time. The river was very low showing off this lovely gravel bank. Got the picture just right I think (haven't checked on the bank).

From the 1963 catalogue:

Not sure what the specially hardened cane is. Perhaps Stephen could shed some light on this?
