On this day 62 years ago

Post by Mark »

On this day 62 years ago a 34 year old chap with the help of his life long friend caught and landed the biggest carp in Britain, Ravioli of 44lb.

13th September 1952, a toast is called for tonight chaps.

Special day.
Here are a couple of rarely seen photos of Ravioli.

Is it me, on looking at the photos, but did she have a particularly 'over-slung' top of the mouth?

She just looks so big in that last photo. Cheers to you tonight RW and PT.

I believe Pete Thomas is still alive but well into his 90s. Can anyone confirm this?

Not seen the top photo before - my lord she's like a barrel!

Thanks for posting Nigel and cheers too to Chris.

In my ignorance I thought that Dick's record carp was called Clarissa?

Clarissa was the name London zoo gave her. Dick called her Ravioli after the food they lived off at Redmire and stuck to that name. He never accepted Clarissa.

Yes, what a night it must have been except for dear old Ravioli who I wish had been returned to Redmire, even after having been in London Zoo for a week or two for the press to get their story.
