Chapman of Ware Di-Maggio Fly Rod

Post by Ambidexman »

I have just picked up a lovely 8ft, two-piece Chapmans fly rod, named 'Di-Maggio', it has two top sections, the correct rod bag and is housed in a metal 'Chapman & Co of Ware' rod tube. I have contacted Chapmans but had no reply as yet, does anyone out there know about these rods i.e. date etc? I assume it is named after Joe Di-Maggio? There is an identification number on the reel seat of: 2000 112.

Thanks for that LJM183, I had found that one (the only one I found though) and thought as that one was owned by Joe Di-Maggio, it might be different as that one was probably made for him personally? The serial number on mine may suggest mine is number 112 of 2,000 made?

Chapmans have always had an American market...it makes sense that they would offer an example of a rod they had made for the country's most famous sportsman to the general public, I suppose?

Hopefully a Henry Cooper 9 foot 5 weight will show up in due course.

The trouble with having a learning difficulty is you get context and words confused all the time. I think I meant Rocky Marciano. If I have to email someone called Brain , I always spell it as Brain.
