Rod Ring Spacing

Thought this might be of interest to the rod restorers out there.
I,m not saying that the spacing is exact it,s the measurement,s taken from a few rod,s before i stripped the rings off.

Here goes............

Some of the ring spacing's above were done in order to reduce the price of the rod. Not because that is the 'best' or 'correct' spacing.

That is shown on the Shelford, Amwell and Amwell SP which have exactly the same tapers for each joint according to Chapmans.

I was told this some time ago by a very well respected builder ... it was an attempt in the '60's to reduce costs to try to compete with the cheaper imports coming into the country at the time.
