Thanks for the info. Very useful. The rods in the post so I'll get some photos up once it arrives. Here's a link to the ebay page:

Looks as if it has lost a bit of length over the years. Usually the butt and middle sections are roughly the same size, the tip being slightly shorter by a couple of inches.

Looks more like an eleven foot rod with shortened tip and mid section, possibly Octofloat but I've not seen them with button (possibly later addition?)

Just as MGs has said, and the middle and tip joints are re-whipped too. I think that one's a bit of a 'bitsa', still...the fish won't know or care.

It's good to have a 'user' cane rod that you don't have to worry about the value of it and you can just think about the fishing.

Crosspost.

Just as Haydn has said, only later rods had button and pale green/yellowy whips too. The butt might be a Nufloat or a Rover possibly.
If the former it will have the two fishes logo, not the green octopus.

Also looks to have long whips/spliced on the top two sections. Interesting to get a report when it arrives

Nobby wrote:They made light, medium and heavy leger rods and I think they were 9 feet.

The markings on them were identical to an Octofloat rod, with the exception of the Medium Leger title in the usual red.

If your rod has all three sections of the same length I'd guess it's one of these.

Here's a similar rod...though I doubt it's 1940, as stated, with aluminium bits on it.....

There's actually a Heavy Leger on eBay right now.
Just picked up two ledgers today, one medium one heavy, both 9ft in length
Rod length: 95 cm (37 ½ inch), 95 cm (37 ½ inch) / 93 cm (36 ½ inch) – Total 283 cm
The heavy has lined butt and tip rings the medium just the tip ring is lined the rest of the rings are low bells, both have rubber buttons

Someone out there with much deeper pockets than me

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191219942545? ... 1426.l2649

I was bidding on this. However, given the condition, the need for a full restoration and uncertain condition of the cane, I'm out. Looks like it is going to go for a pretty high price

Is it just my eyes or is something not quite right about the tip?
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.
