Hmmm, interesting. I haven't put a line through the Superb yet but it feels very close if not the same as the New Superb. I'll have a play with both soon and report back.

I am amazed that the twin top version went of just over a hundred quid - more than amazed in fact  Ah well, I don't need any more rods just yet

Oh well, that's another one to add to the list

I wish Allcocks were a bit more imaginative in their naming it would have made life much easier.

Is that one, the A175 model, the "rare" one ie 3 piece?

Looks an ideal rod for my carp fishing. If it can cast a 3 oz lead it must be quite powerful and capable of handling a big fish in the weed. Any idea of a test curve or line rating?

I know these are modern ideas, but being a younger angler it helps me to determine the power and suitability of a rod for a purpose I have in mind.

From memory..I'm decorating and the kitchen is now in the tackle room( some week) the Carp Avon and Carp Superb are both two piece rods...in as much as the Carp Avon has two tops, so there are three sections but it is a two-piece rod...I think.

This collector thought he had bought the rare three section rod.......only it was a two section rod with a break repaired by fitting a ferrule and counter, all cunningly photographed to make it appear a three section rod.

He wasn't happy!

I think the matter may have gone to Court.

I'm sure the rod ended up being owned by a PP member..?

Correct Nobby.

Avon - 10 ft - 2 piece - red whippings.

Carp/Avon - 10 ft - 2 piece with extra tip - (Avon + Carp tips) - wine/brown whippings (without looking at it).

The three piece in the advert must be a very rare rod - keep your eyes peeled people

My Superb is a 2 piece 10' which goes between the top two on your list so its either a Superb mk2 or the mk 1 version of the New Superb - and now my head hurts.

Yes it, RT...with the same text and illustration of the earlier Guide. If there is a two-piece Superb it's not catalogued I think.

I don't have a Guide for 1964, never even seen one...though Pete Carmen says it does exist. It might pre-date the Guide in printing and have the Superb as a two piece, 5 intermediate ringed rod, before someone decided to change the name, possibly.

I do have the trade only Catalogue for 1964 and it talks of the new rod for 1964, the New Superb.

Just possible you have something special there Dave...

That, or someone scratched off the 'New' on it....
