Fishing the Dove and various other spots near the Peak District

Welcome!
I expect you'll remember the 'good old days' Ian, when you could still catch decent chub from the Darent where it ran alongside Horton Kirby by the Sun Inn.

It's probably aptly named now, as I 'daren't' go back there either! (Some things better left to fond memory).
I dont miss it- on Darenth lakes the bivvies had milk and papers delivered. Early one season I asked someone in my favourite spot how long he was staying. " November" was the answer

Enjoying fishing quiet waters with my " out of date" tackle and enjoying this lovely online group

Thank you all for your kind words of welcome.

John & Ian: Belvedere & Darenth eh? The Belvedere level crossing frequently cost me a quarter hour’s apprentice pay for late clocking on at Ford’s. Darenth was where I caught my first fish - minnows in a jam jar stuffed with bread. That was in 1949 but even then we were doing catch-and-release.

Paul & Pete:: At the age of 4, I took it into my head to cycle to Dartford to see the gasworks where my father worked. I got as far as Crayford before I “bottled out” and went back home. Somehow I avoided being mowed down by the 696 trolleybuses. I was alway forbidden to cross the Rochester Bypass (A2) to access the River Shuttle and the Mill Pond at Bexley. My mother pretended that the danger was the traffic (1950 traffic?) but the real terror back then was polio.

Nothing would induce me to cross that road now. The “Black Prince” appears to be buried beneath flyovers.

They do say “Never go back”.

BB.
