Just to note that the 1962 edition is identical to the 1961 edition - wthough it does say "1962" and "Revised Edition" on the cover! I could take a photo of course...

Davyr wrote:That is interesting, Trott - truly the last gasp of split cane before its revival in the 1990s. One thing that's been puzzling me for a while - most seem to agree that the quality of the available tonkin cane from China went sharply into decline after the Second World War.

On the other hand, most also agree that some of the current cane rod builders are now producing rods of extremely high quality.

Is this because China is once again allowing high-quality cane to be exported to the West? Or for some other reason?
Funnily enough as I was leafing through my '62 JBW catalogue I noticed that the "Tonking" (!!) canes from China had been discontinued and a pink stamp to that effect put over the entry in the catalogue. Other canes - Japanese, Burma Brown and "Prime Tonkings" still available though.

A bit of Googling suggests this chap must have some very useful contacts in China - he seems to be "the man" when it comes to exporting Tonkin cane into the UK:

Just got a 1970 catalogue, like the endorsement by Richard Walker. You would have thought there would have been some other supplier of materials closer to him than Kent? Must have been impressed with their services. Also the S/U MK4 for big Pike and light Sea fishing.
