You have answered your own question there, having the reels made up from the parts bin should tell you that any new frame does not have a serial number, spare frames were packaged but never stamped, castings changed over a period of time and even on the 50 series reels you have to be so careful what parts you use to make up a reel. The 44X would be fine for its time and being made by Abu they should have all the correct parts, only thing you wont have is a serial number. A valuable reel? Not really, to a collector a serial number is the first thing they look for, condition is also a key thing. The one part on your reels is the gears, IF they are in perfect condition they will be worth more on their own, as a pair of gears they should be worth a considerable sum as they are the match gears with a ratio of 6:1. In the trade your reels are what is called parts reels so the value is not high, as spare parts and depending on condition they are worth probably a lot more as certain parts as I say are rare items
