Thank you all so much for your kind comments and I am delighted you enjoyed reading about this lovely old rod and its journey to the waters edge and the new life it now has. Fishing with vintage tackle and using traditional methods is something that I have come to love so much. And I highly reccomend restoring an old cane rod because it takes you on a journey into that rods life and as you restore it, you become a part of its journey.

I never had such a connection with any of the modern tackle I used to use. Yet with vintage tackle, every rod, reel, floats, etc have a much greater feeling and even greater pleasure when using them. Taking care of them and keeping them in good working order is also a pleasure to do and much of that understanding I have gained from this wonderful Forum and all your kind contributions that have helped me so much.

Kind regards to you all and tight lines on your fishing adventures
John

Well done! Iconic rod from the sixties saved from the damp and the spiders to be enjoyed for many more decades.
PS.I do like the Abu 444a, but the Mitchell looks as if it belongs on your rod.

Regards Tom.

I really enjoyed reading that and congratulate you on bringing the rod back to a very useful life. Your first picture shows the before and after very nicely, and the last is a superb end result for your labours. Smashing job :Thumb: :Hat:

Thank you for bringing an iconic rod back to life Richard would be pleased, well done great result, yes certainly could use a Mitchell 300 but then I’m bias towards such a reel on the MK1V.
