I was an apprentice mechanical technician back in 1970 earning just over £7 a week before tax with a little bit of overtime!! looking at those 1961 prices they would be way beyond my pocket even in 1970.

According to a number of websites I've been looking through (no heckling at the back please about my earlier error ), £1 in the 1960's had the buying power of about £21. Food for thought?
