An Altex is my preferred choice.

Early Mitchell 300 with butterfly anti-reverse and either just Mitchell on the side or Mitchell 300 only.

It is now! -it was a 'basket case' I bought and rebuilt. It's a No.2 Mk.5 without optional anti-reverse. Still the nicest clutch of any Fixed spool in my opinion. The VFC wrote:Altex - very nice: which model is that? Looks in fabulous nick.

I took the pin out of mine wm+. It’s nice to be able to back wind when you have a big carp on as well as relying on the clutch. :thumb:watermole+ wrote:It is now! -it was a 'basket case' I bought and rebuilt. I'd agree that the Altex has the best clutch of all.watermole+ wrote:It is now! -it was a 'basket case' I bought and rebuilt. It's a No.2 Mk.5 without optional anti-reverse. I was. Thanks Jim! :thumb:The VFC wrote:Good advice from Sean I reckon - I'd lean more towards the Mitchell myself though. I think Sean is actually referring to the Intrepid Elite rather than the much smaller Deluxe.

If a Mitchell is a mountain bike, an Altex is a unicycle. Looks like fun, but makes damned hard work of things.
