Here is a picture of John Norman (from Nottingham) and his 18lb 8oz fully scaled carp caught on honey paste from Mapperley (Norman's Folly) in August 1952.
Just look at the size of those scales.
Picture scanned from an original photo courtesy of Mike Wilson, the photo was given to Mike by Dick Walker.

The shape of that carp is interesting. Shows that all carp weren't torpedo shape before the advent of the modern carper and there baits. Bit surprised to be honest.
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

Could be spawn? I know August is a bit late in the year but it might have failed to shed it.

I have seen this before and always felt the fish is spawn bound or has dropsy

Nice fish, but where's the unhooking mat? Thankfully fish welfare is a concern for most modern carpers. I often grimace at old photo's of trophy fish, be they carp or pike! I use to have a book on piking from the 50's which showed b/w photos of several 20lb plus pike all lined up on the bank, that had been caught, gaffed, and killed before having their photo taken! I doubt even if they were taken for the table!

Great photo, if I told the missus I was going fishing and put on a suit she'd say "I thought you were going fishing"
Chance is always powerful. Let your hook be always cast; in the pool where you least expect it, there will be a fish

Yes they did dress well for fishing in those days.
