Anyone else read this? Nice wee book and made me chuckle. Forgotten the author I'm afraid. somebody Hill maybe

I enjoyed it, too. He did another one called 'Fishing without Tears'.

Reviving an old thread - I picked up a copy in a second hand book store the other day. Very enjoyable to read.

Yes I remember "Fishing without Tears" being a very good read, quite witty in parts.

I was fortunate to have "Billy" Hill as my Chief Editor at the Bournemouth Echo, when I starting working there in 1981. Transferring my skills to the Echo Composing Room, from a small jobbing printers called Broglia Press in the town.
Our paths crossed a couple of times at Hale Park on the Hampshire Avon, after he retired. Always generous with advice and sharing his maggots. Although he was much older then, he was a pleasure to chat with and still mad keen on fishing in all its forms.

The good angler is not the one with expensive equipment. Common sense, observation and trying to realize
what is happening above and below water will catch fish no matter what price equipment you fish with.

I'm a sucker for a recommendation..
Bagged a copy yesterday for less the price of pint of ale including postage!
Then.... thought for a minute... haven't I already got that one 🥴. ( just checked no I haven't)
Sounds a good read.
The close season is an important and interesting time for the Angler who set out to catch big fish. It is a timely opportunity for him to make new tackle or renovate old. There are no end of jobs to do, apart from those horrible things called Gardens!

I'm about halfway through it. Interesting and entertaining, and quite a bit of what he says would strike a chord with people here.
