I agree with all that has been said above, we had a great day , meeting friends and aquaintances , and making new friends also.
When we eventually arrived home and SWMBO did the “accounts” we discovered that we had had taken within two British Pounds of what we took last year, so in all it was a good day for us. I also managed to aquire a bargain Tag Barns Pike rod in terrific condition which is now awaiting a rod bag to be made .
Our thanks to to Andy ( who needs a volume control ) for organising the event which was faultless , and to all the stallholders who made a wonderful display for the visitors. Long may it continue !
For anyone who's not visited previously, it's really well worth a visit. So easy to get to from the M1 J33
Easy parking, good catering facilities etc.
There was a wealth of quality tackle items on display and lots of bargains to be had.
I've visited every year since it started, and it gets bigger and better each year.
It provides a great opportunity to move on your surplus tackle and pick up some bargains.
Well done Andy for hosting another successful fair, looking forward to the next!
"Oh for want of rod and line I'd fish this stream serene, sublime".
It was lovely to meet some fellow members, and put some names to faces. A great atmosphere + I went happily home with a No1 LRH. I hasten to add my wife wasn't as happily impressed as I was on my return. Ps, does anyone know the correct whipping colour thread - red and green - for the LRH please?
Well done Andy on another great event. Already looking forward to the next one.
I picked up a few bargain "projects" and had some nice chats with friends old and new. Nice to see the usual stall holders and a few new ones.
Many thanks to Wanderer for the Pontefract cakes and the nice chat about missing bites due to observing nature, we must all be guilty of that.
Nice to have a chat to Steve Middleton and nice to see Dave O.M.R. again with his stall full of hand made cane delights.
Garry Mills was there with a vast array of reels for sale, something for everyone that's for sure.
Roger Surgay had a fabulous stall with some really desireable items, floats and tubes by Paul Cook. Many Hardy rods, B James rods and more aerials than you could shake a stick at.
Met up with my mate Bob Brookes and his lovely wife Glenda. Great to see Bob back on his feet after the knee replacement from hell. Bob gifted me a copy of his sons new book The River Trent. I have read Bob's contribution to the book, titled, "Bobs Hole". He is good writer, Bob, easy to read and full of information and there are some great memories from his early angling life. I am not a big reader but I am looking forward to reading another chapter tonight.
Had a good catch up with Jeremy Croxall, I am sure we could talk for ever about restoring rods. He picked up a very nice 3 1/2" Aerial made by Tom Kelsey for Specialist Tackle. A reel bargain, I reckon.
The journey there and back seemed easy, the traffic flowed smoothly and even keeping to the speed limits we made each way in just over 1hr 45mins, not bad for a 100 mile trip, these days.
If you get the chance to attend the next one, get yourself there. It needs to continue and to thrive. It's worth the trip for the bacon buns.
Firstly, thanks for Andy organising the event
Secondly, for the Pontefract cakes - although I have yet to open them until I have lost another 10lb (and that will be 2 stone lost altogether)
Thirdly, to all the exhibitors and all visitors.
Lastly, a plea to the gentleman, who had the Newark Needle floats and with whom I talked about Pete Warren and John Dean - could you please remind me of your name please - by PM if you wish.
It was the first of the fairs that I have been able to attend even though I work in Rotherham.
I managed to get there late morning and having withstood the temptation of another rod or reel I came away with a butt extension but unfortunately did not think to ask the name of the stallholder and likely TFF member ?
