Thank you!
Plus, it definitely boosted my confidence, as far as stripping another Hardy Altex

Taking the 1935 EB Altex no.1 out for her newly restored inaugural run, tomorrow.
Letting the no.2 get some action, too.

It's gonna be a Hardy day for the crappie!

Not sure if it is the image perspective, but the no.1 looks so much smaller than the no.2. I mean I expected it to be smaller, but not by so much?

Now I want one....sigh!

Enjoy your Hardy outing (tight lines!).

Rockape,

Yes, they are tiny. 7oz..

I also learned even like parts from a no.1 parts reel sometimes will not fit on another no.1 due to each one being hand made.
e.g. the replacement handle I have will not attach to my restored no.1 due to each one being threaded individually for the specific ring gear in each different reel. I could swap the gear and be good to go, but that means stripping reel back down, almost completely, to do so.
So, to fit new handle to resto reel, I have to punch each pin on the 2 separate handles and swap the threaded joint section, so it will work on my restored reel.
Crazy. So, not all parts will interchange, even if reels are same no. and mark.
Definitely shows fact, that all these are one of a kind hand crafted works of art. Keep your modern reels, I don't need em!

Peace!

Totally agree with you, modern reels are kind of soul less.
Thank you for adding the extra comparison image, amazing difference.

Better start saving my pennies.

I just got a (supposedly rare?) Sportex 55 reel (due to arrive today), which, from the parts diagram, appears to have similar 'pinning' to the Altex (pinned handle for sure), so that will be an interesting stripdown, and hopefully not a disasterous one. :Beg:

I hold the punch and my old lady whacks it with the hammer.
That's all she'll help me with. Lol
She's whacked me a few times and said it was accidental.
The jury is out on that, still.

Mission complete!

I'd be proud of that restoration too, well done! :Hat:

Got the Sportex here now, the main concern is a wobbly rotor and a slight clunk on each rotation, but I am determined to sort it....eventually.
