'Drop me a line'. Ingham & Walker.

Post by Cat »

Evening All,
I've just finished reading the very excellent above mentioned book. In the included letter from Mr D F Leney, p 287, he mentions stocking 'a few yearling King Carp of 4-5'' in some trout ponds in Derbyshire.' Also, on the same page, he discusses stocking canals in the Midlands.
The question is do any learned members know the ponds in question? Also, I never knew that canals were actually stocked!
Regards Cat

Your only hope Cat is contacting Mark Walsingham, as he owns the entire Donald Leney invoice-books which cover your dates.

An update, Cat, on those Leney ledgers; the Carp Society has recently acquired them. They will be permanently housed at the CS headquarters at Lechlade. Hopefully, the CS will allow researchers to examine them in secure circumstances.
