Can anyone help with the date of my Hardy 7’0” 6lb “Wanless” No. E 98573.
All the charts that I have seen stop at E 96xxx in 1954.

Many thanks Olly. I believed it was from 1955 but wanted some proof. Incidentally, the rod appears unused!

I found myself with a Wanless - a 1951 Hardy-Wanless Worming rod - 6oz t/c - a beautiful lightweight 10ft float rod - line 1-2lb - for fish up to 2 or 3lb.

No good if you hooked a real monster? The lake I have access to has a head of Rudd (some golden) up to a pound, but mainly Common/Linear Carp up to ten pounds. The lake is full of weed, so I don’t think the lightweight tackle would be any good. The Wanless 6 I have will be out Tuesday next for the first time (by me).

Re: Wanless 6 - E98573
I have a Wanless 6lb and used to use it a lot for chub fishing and it was great but I once hooked a 4lb barbel with it and it was the first time I have experienced a rod completely running out of power. I somehow got it in though.
I also had a 1930s 4lb one and tried chub fishing on a small river. I hooked a good chub but it was too much for the 80 year old glue and all 6 strips delaminated at the butt.
I use the 6’ 10” Wanless 9/10lb for barbel and carp. It’s great fun! I caught a 12.08 barbel on it recently and it was close to the limit but coped fine. I use it in a snaggy pool for carp to mid doubles in the margin and it’s fine.
They are awesome rods.

I wouldn't use it where there are carp or barbel --- but excellent for dace and grayling even roach on small rivers!
I have a large choice of cane or that black stuff to choose from! I think from 1lb t/c up to 4 or 5lb in both. Excluding float rods!
