Is this a North Western SS6?

Post by Tengisgol »

Begging forgiveness for discussing glass fibre but I have come across two 11’ glass rods that I believe are SS6. My memory is a bit wobbly. The SS5 I have seen recently were both painted but these are not and are a woven glass material.

Can anyone confirm, might these be North Westerns?

No need to apologise for discussing fibreglass Phil ……. a few of us have more glass than cane!

I can’t help I’m afraid as that’s not my area of interest in glass but you might want to move this to the traditional glass rods section.

I was looking for that but couldn’t see it! I’ve found it now but it is beyond my skills to move the post I’m afraid!

Hopefully someone will come along to help!

The weave is identical to that of a Bass rod I built on a North Western blank around 1980. The colour was different, more brownish than grey.

My mate Bob had a pair of SS6's,they were dark brown in colour,11ft with 2.5lb test curve, very fast taper. They made a good Pike rod.
Sooperclooper seems to be quite an authority on glass rods, maybe a pm to him would help.
