Some fine examples there. The 4” No1 is an outstanding trotting reel to my mind.

I don't know if you are an expert on the Hardy-Wallis reels or not.
I've noticed that some (or perhaps all?) 3 1/2" No.2 reels have straight, not bulbous or tapered, handles.
Was this on early reels as we see bulbous on early 4" reels?

Not an expert really just a very keen interest in all things Hardy and Wallis.
My 3.5 “ No.2 has tapered handles but no way of dating it unfortunately. My guess is that the early 3.5” No.2 had the straight handle which was used on the Triumph too.

I have owned six Hardy-Wallis reels. The first was a 4" no.1 with bulbous handles in vgc. I had to let it go when finances were difficult.
Next was a 4" no.2 which ran rather sluggishly which I also sold. That had tapered handles.
I presently have a 4" no.1 with tapered handles; 4" no.2 with bulbous handles; 3 1/2" no.1 with tapered handles; 3 1/2" no.2 with straight handles.
Endless variety in a reel with two sizes and two versions.
