"There's treasure everywhere !" ...

Post by AshbyCut »

... as those of you who may remember the cartoon adventures of Calvin and Hobbes may recognise.

I was rummaging about under my bed earlier tonight when I came across a small wooden box ... which contained 3 Newark Needle Floats, 12 quills from 4in to 9 1/2in ... 2 celluloid floats ... and 13 other designs ... and THIS wonderfully Heath Robinson/idiosyncratic 6 1/4in. float !!!

Image

It's obviously designed to hold itself in a stream whilst being trotted ... or, of course, I could be wrong ??? Unbelievable I know ... but it has happened !!! :laugh1:

I certainly haven't seen one before ... how about you ???

I had one in those days - 1966!

3 different sizes costing 3/10 - - 4/1 - - 4/5 - for the respective body sizes.
I am afraid it didn't work for me on the Thames - may have done for others though - too large a river?

Fascinating floats! I've never seen those before. I assume they didn't work that well as the design has faded away to my knowledge? Or are they the secret weapon of Bob 'Bagger' Brooks

I recently bought a bunch of 2nd hand river floats, and they included one of these (the yellow one).
I might give it a go, now I know how it should be used.
