My Perfection Roach has 2 letters above it's numbers, H and a C with a large gap between them. The number underneath is 40083.
The numbers on my other Hardy rods are all prefix and appear directly in front of the numbers. I am not sure if this means my rod is from 1937 and has the builders initials above the number?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thank you, John

Re: Perfection Roach
Hi John,
I would say this H40083 for 1961
Not sure what the C represents?

Re: Perfection Roach
Rod date information can be confusing. The information I was given states :-
"Many of the early rod numbers can be considered as approximate dates as some of the numbers cannot be traced.
As general information, rods manufactured prior to 1966 will usually carry individual identification numbers (i.d.) stamped on either the reel fitting, or the butt cap.
Rods manufactured post 1966 will usually carry a simple letter code inscribed in ink above the cork handle (month/year).
Rods manufactured between 1966 and 1981 may carry either, or both, of these identification numbers.
Individual numbering in the form of a letter and number inscription was re-introduced in 1981."
((I won't try to go into 'G' numbering.))
As your rod carries both letter and number i.d., I'd suggest it was made between 1966 and 1981 ... and the codes I have for these years would make it made in July (H) 1973 (C).
BUT ... I could be wrong.

Re: Perfection Roach
I have via G Turners all the codes used to 1966 and the other letters until 1986.
I also found/have the G numbering from 1927, when it seems it started, to 1955 - excluding the WWII years.
I agree with a date of 1961 where the numbering to that year was started by H35184 until H48465.
The C prefix was used from 1919-1922.
**All of the above is from Turners book.**
