I have had a similar problem in the past. The male ferrule had cracked and loosened, fortunately I had a suitable replacenent male ferrule so didn't have to worry about the female ferrule under the corks.
If the female ferrule is loose, it's quite an easy job to strip the corks off, re glue the female ferrule and pop on some new corks. :Hat:
sorry to disagree Jeremy , but stripping off the corks won't help.
the handle of a 500 is an ally tube with the female ferrule set inside . taking off the corks will simply mean replacing the corks with nothing achieved
