The River Beane
The River Beane
The River Beane was made famous by Richard Walker back in the 50/60s and well known for its Roach and Dace 50 years ago.
I sometimes walk a small section of the river and have seen some good Chub in the Hertford section of river.

The most precious places in the English landscape are those secretive corners,
where you find only elder trees, nettles and dreams. (BB - Denys Watkins-Pitchford).

The Beane, along with the Lea was a favourite haunt of mine, mainly in and around Hartham Park, Hertford. That photo looks like it was taken from the town bridge.
Re: The River Beane
I used to live in Hertford in the early 80's and regularly took chub on freelined flake and lobworms, somewhere I have a piccy of a 6lb 7oz one that I'll try and find, even in those days it was surprising the number of carp that turned up, particularly in the slacks, and also after a flood the number of trout that would be taken......... ah happy days.

Re: The River Beane
I live 100 yards away from the River Beane in Walkern. The river has all but dried up here but looks fantastic downstream at Stapleford and very fishy. I would love to know if there is any free fishing or clubs that hold fishing rights for the Beane. I have Googled fishing on the river but not really come up with any info at all. I also saw mention to Fred J Taylor's book Favorite Swims and a 'Lily Pad Hole' swim, where about is it?
Any info on River Beane fishing would be great chaps.
Thanks

The Hole is in Hertford and fished by a trout syndicate now.

Thanks Olly, I would love to know a little more about it. Is it Trout only?
