Re: Stantons
I always fancied a smaller Stanton but most that turn up for sale a the 5 inch models.
Had a couple of the 5 inch ones but always thought they felt a little too big.
They were very free running lovely for trotting.

That's what i was thinking Phil.Maybe Stanton only started putting labels on when they started selling well.
Fishing is complete and utter madness.

I have the four inch version, it feels a proper fit in the hand and less cumbersome
than the larger two sizes. Looks neater on a rod too.

Never had any centrepin over 4 1/2 that I was keen on anyways.
I must look out for one,a smaller stanton that is.

Re: Stantons
Having found this thread I also checked out the Stantons web site where is states that Cliff Adcock modified the original Reynolds reel in the mid 80s. I think this must be a mistake because I received my Adcock Stanton as a 21st birthday present from my parents and I'm now 62!
I love the reel but have on occasions found the lack of a check a tad frustrating, particularly when tackling up and moving swims etc. I use a little elastic band on the reel seat to hook over one of the handles when I want to lock it all up but recently I saw a Stanton with a modification which took the form of a center adjusting knurled nut which acts as a drag. Does anyone else have this mod? Not convinced it offers anymore flexibility than my elastic band.

Re: Stantons
That was made by Adcocks - one of the later versions I think.
I have 3 - - 2 with handles, including one with a ratchet.

Re: Stantons
I can remember seeing a 5" version with no handles and the spool edge was knuled to aid batting I assumed?
