Off to Britford Monday for an explore, any tips gentlemen?

Post by Tengisgol »

Thanks in anticipation. Everything suggests its very weedy, so any pointers toward a swim or two for trotting (to save us wasting time) would be greatly appreciated.

I fished the Avon lower down on Tuesday. 1000s of dace - every cast a bite or 2 or 3! Changed to the lead and a bigger bait & had a 5lb+ chub.

So trotting perhaps and changing to a lead occasionally during the day. Dusk is when, as the river is so clear, when you have a chance of bigger fish.

Hemp and caster on a clear river, with casters on the hook - maggots can be a bit too attractive to minnows.

Big lump of meat or paste plopped out in the hole opposite the scout hut or cast across in the eel house pool.....

fished britford today, saw some big bream on the new river down stream from the car park and a very large pike, fished the lower weir, just a few grayling to 1lb, 1 dace of 12 oz, and 2 perch at 1lb, very clear water, best fished at dusk at the moment i reckon.

Having walked most of the water with you Geoff, I can picture you on it! When you say the lower weir do you mean going left from the car park where the old "Pump House" is?
p.s a 12oz dace is a cracker!
