The House The 50s Built

Anyone watch the start of this new series on Channel 4 last night? In the course of a piece about the invention of non-stick frying pans, the presenter explained that a French engineer called Marc Gregoire had been experimenting with Teflon on his fishing tackle before applying the technology to pans (later marketed as Tefal).

I couldn't identify the butt section of rod that was being waved about, but the centre-pin reel fitted to it looked very much like a Grice & Young of some description. Looked about 4" diameter and had a line guard, in that distinctive light-brown hammered finish G&Y often used.

No I missed that, but I do know the 'hammered' paint was Finnegan's Hammerite, only available to the 'trade' or by mail-order in those days.
