That is a lovely read Smallscale, very interesting to see who caught the Bishop over the years.

I think the part about the fish not having a name is because CY called it 'the Bishop' but that wasn't its name but rather its rank in the Redmire royalty....

Good call Snape, I'd never really thought of it like that before. I think though, that calling it The Bishop for so long it becomes a name and this is just Chris having one one of his little controversial moments.

What a wonderful read, thanks for sharing.

Such a shame that such a grand old fish be found that way, but then I guess its a fate they must all encounter. Better that an angler found it and buried rather than the foxes finding it and ruining things.

As for the name, perhaps the name The Bishop came later, I think throughout the books it was referred to as the 'Old 38', which really isn't a name fitting enough for such a legendary fish.

The fish to out-monster all others, yes there have been bigger since, but not better, and there never will be.

Here. Here SK I totally agree.
Not a fish was visible that first time I visited Beechmere; an utter
stillness brooded over the place and I felt the strange and sinister atmosphere which, so the story goes,
has been the cause of several suicides.’
