There is a float on ebay, apparently a Harcork, but with no body. The seller describes it as quill, but it looks like cane to me. Do you think its had the cork body removed/sanded down? The seller says the middle part is cork, but I suspect its just a think cork covering over the stem or it would be too fragile. The colour scheme doesn't look very 'Harcork' either.

I think you could be right Paul.

I think it's genuine - I've seen these before. He only says 'quill-style' - it'll actually be cane with a sheet cork covering in the middle. They were designed for delicate roach fishing.

Ah, I've got something very similar, though the cork is a little more 'swollen' in profile. It doesn't say Harcork on mine, though.
I always thought it a tidy little float and wondered how they managed to turn down such a thin bit of cork to slide over the cane shaft.
I suppose Harcork would have done some other, less bouyant ,floats for close in work.........

Does anyone have any history of the Harcork float and company. I'm sure I have read somewhere that they were from Bromley and produced floats from the mid 40's to the mid 60's.
