Ratty with the catty!

Post by Jeremy Croxall »

I made a frame for a catty during the early summer and it resided in the fruit bowl until just recently until my wife got ratty with the catty

"Finish it or bin it" was her instruction...

So :Scared:

The stumbling block had been the pouch until I remembered seeing an old leather farriers apron amongst some old tac in the barn
So I shortened said apron a tad to provide sufficient material for the pouch.
The problem I had was sewing, I bent two needles trying to push them through the hide and didn't have a drill small enough to prepare holes prior to sewing so I put in some brass eyelets and laced it with a thin leather thong cut from an old strap, this also provides the "pull tag" and it works very well.
My daughter tested the catty with frozen broad beans which she fired across the back garden, thankfully avoiding the cat :Hide:
So that's another item of traditional tackle struck from the wanted list!

Very nice indeed Jeremy. I really like the Robin Hoodesque details for the pouch :Thumb:

Now I'm not sure what I like better, the catty or the word "Robin Hoodesque"

Hi Jeremy,
well thought out and executed.
A very very nice bait flicker.
Personally I would say it was a nice addition to the fruit bowl!

All the best
Nige.

That is spooky Jeremy, apart from the pouch ( I like yours a lot better ) it is almost a dead ringer for the below....I made it a few months ago, it too, also remained in the fruit basket, I have only used it once so far..it never got as far as being varnished , I may treat it with Danish Oil when In get around to it.

A neat little catapault for sure. When I need to to sew leather I whack a line of holes with a tin tack to save the needle. You can buy a proper tool of course. but that  involves spending money :)
In order to shoot some close-ups, wildlife photographer ,the late Len Scapstillon, lured the orca to him by dressing as a seal.......

I used Danish Oil on mine, I think three applications from memory...
I'll make you a pouch if you like, just let me know :Hat:
