Made myself a Swing-tip....or two.

Post by Tonytoned »

Hello Everyone

Delving through one of my many recently purchased FISHING - The Magazine for the Modern Angler - No' 107 - Friday March 5th - 1965

Image

I came across this write up about 'Make yourself a swing-tip by W. Hunt......' This one is cheap, effective - and detachable' he explains!

So I did!... with washing up liquid bottles and sticky back plastic...... well!..... okay then, some swivels, a couple of guides and two lèngths of 1.6mm aluminium welding wire from work

....and here is my creation. Just needs testing now. I did use link swivels instead of split rings, but I might modify as I go along...... That's known as progress!

They look great... let us know how they work... :Hat:
Just one more cast love, and I'll be on me way home

Leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but pictures and memories

Nicely made Tony but I would be careful with the casts at first. If it does tangle up it could wreck the tip ring or worse.

My first thought was that such a device would be too sensitive with a rough sea such as that shown in the cover picture!

Hmmm? I reckon you should use a swear box whilst fishing with these.... you may save enough money to buy a quiver tip :Chuckle: They will be great at bite detection but that's a long tip and I concur with the tangle potential. But nothing ventured.... I hope I am proved wrong.

As for the article. Magazines, back in the day, were great for sharing invention in tackle and technique. Imagine that piece written today. The concept would have been 'borrowed' by a major company, mass produced, wrapped in yards of single use plastic and built up as essential, groundbreaking, catch enhancing wonder kit. All text wrapped around umpteen images including the obligatory swingtip held out to camera with blurred behind.

Depressing isn't it.

Thanks Wal. I will, I'll use one of my cheap and nasty rods.
