Quill rod tip

Post by Cane »

Some time ago I made a rod tip from two combined seagull quills. I said that I’d try to make a rod from quills. Lockdown gave me a chance to experiment further. The result to date has been an 18” rod tip made from six goose and seagull quills, secured with a few brass wires and 50 yards of silk thread and varnished three times.
An error in alignment meant that it has a bit of a bend in it, but it works! It stood up well against a six pound carp.
Probably there is no obvious application for this discovery, but should you ever find yourself on a desert island surrounded by large feathers and some handy thread and varnish....
