No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man.

I bought a butt ring from the guy in Poland, it was beautiful. He does lots of colours and sizes but they are expensive :-)

Re: D.I.Y. butt ring.
Thanks for the explanation WM+, much appriciated. I may even have ago myself! You always make it sound so easy! Hope all is well with you.Watermole+ wrote: ↑Mon Apr 06, 2020 8:31 amThank you everyone for kind words.
Hovis..The outside ring is as you have probably guessed, is made from the same rod. I did not have any suitable flat stock to make a bezel surround with, so 'cheated' and ground a deep, radiussed groove, centrally into the outside of the agate and made a ring to fit within it. This was joined with solder first, before the side frames were added. The correct way would have been to use a roller tool to form a radiussed, circular strip to make a bezel first.
Barbulus..I am sorry but I only have a few odd pieces of agate now and the only ones which are absolutely clear are far too small for a butt ring.
I do agree that glass-like, clear ones are quite unusual now, but they don't seem to be in fashion!
There is a supplier of agate rod guides in Poland who makes all different colours but cannot say whether he has any clear ones..
