Cane landing net handles

Post by LlyrEdwards »

Hello All,

Unfortunately due to my spare funds being somewhat limited for the time being I was thinking about making my own basic landing net handle from some cane ( not split cane). Having had a quick look online I can find some for relatively cheap but I am unsure as to what diameter I would require?

Its going to be used for Cruicians, tench, Perch etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Regards,

Llyr

Judging by the size of fish (Carp) you caught in your other posting go for one with as long a length as possible, preferably a two section. If the net handle is too short you run the risk of breaking your rods tip section if it makes a final dash as you net it.

I've made a couple of handles. I find that between 5 and 6 feet long covers most eventualities. It is long enough in most circumstances and at that length, doesn't bend to much. I have fairly small hands so find holding large diameter cane uncomfortable. About 1 inch seems OK. At that diameter it isn't too difficult to insert the required threading.
