This one got me thinking,

locally on the Trent where I fish , Dendrobaena worms really do seem to work when targeting perch over lob worms.
As a youngster we fished a small pond at Long Clawson where the local bait for the carp was flour and custard powder mixed to a paste.
Talking of paste simple bead paste accounted for many bream when night fishing Colonel Clifton Pond at Clifton Nottingham.

Perhaps these fish have acquired a regional taste for various baits?
