Two weeks ago while on holiday in Cornwall we were sitting enjoying an afternoon pint on the pontoon outside the very lovely Pandora Inn on the Carrick Roads near Falmouth. There was a young family there crabbing off the side. The younger ones were using handlines whilst the slightly older lad, about 11 I would say, was using a cheap looking rod and reel outfit with nothing but a hook and a bit of bacon rind on the end. He proceeded to hook and land a stunning Bass of about 4lbs!
There is me being trying to catch a decent Bass for years using 'proper' bait and lures with no success. Was I a bit jealous? Of course not!
I would also add it was great to see how well he treated the fish whilst unhooking it and he returned it straight back to the water without even a photo.
