Birthday barbel

Post by Jeremy Croxall »

It was my birthday yesterday and my two boys took me to a day ticket stretch on the Trent in the hope of catching a barbel.
We set up in fine drizzle which quickly dried up and the sun came out as we made our first casts. After lunch I started to nod so tucked the line under my index finger slumped into my chair and started to drift off. I was brought back to full consciousness by a sharp tug on the line, lifted the rod and all went solid followed by a thump thump as something kicked from the depths.
After a short tussle my Chapman 550 and DAM 285 gained control and a fine fish came to the net.

The only fish of the day but a lovely bonus during a day spent with my two boys.
"Oh for want of rod and line I'd fish this stream serene, sublime".

I am so pleased for you Jeremy. It looks like you dropped onto some rare good weather for your birthday too. I look forward to being mobile enough next season to share some more trips with you, it's been a while.
