Bredwardine barbel.

Post by CraigM »

Just back from a return visit to the Red Lion at Bredwardine, the scene of aTFF visit to the Wye last year.

Some spot on advice from Mr Burr of this forum (thanks again Dave) & a cane rod purchased from ljm a while ago.

I caught a 4lb barbel 40 years ago & a gudgeon sized one in the interim. 2 nice chub last visit to the Wye.

I blanked the first two days but on Sunday a chublet was followed by a beautiful barbel of 10lbs 10oz.

It's first run has left a burn on my thumb where I was trying to brake the Speedia & I'll never forget my first sight of it on the end of my line & realising (if it's first run of at least twenty five yards hadn't been a hint) that she was a whopper!

Pictures are (hopefully) on a disposable camera. Several taken by a group canoeing who kindly pulled into the bank & took a few for me.

Great to have caught on pin & cane as well (I confess I was using carbon & a Baitrunner f/spool to reach the far bank the day before).

Still on a "high". :Thumb:

Brilliant! I shall be there next weekend myself, looking forward to it. How was the water looking?

The river is still low but had a bit of colour in it.

Very bright & sunny for my three days but "my" fish was hooked at 12.45 pm so it pays to fish at any time. Quite a few small barbel being banked & some very good chub up to 6lbs.

Very best of luck Tengisol.

Superb CraigM, look forward to see the pictures of the fish and the expression on your face captured in the moment.

Only five years late ! My Bredwardine barbel.

As you can see the combination of a disposable camera & a canoeist taking photos from on the Wye resulted in some of the worst shots of my best fish 😂. The fact that the photo was then re-photographed by my iPad didn't help matters.
