I fished a swim last week that was about 50 yards upstream of where I caught my Billy Bunter Barbel. I had already caught one barbel and, half an hour later, I had another bite. Bream was my immediate thought, but then it 'got heavy' and ponderously took line. It took very little stopping and I was soon gaining line against a steady current in a deep part of the river.
I was getting it towards the net when the hook pulled and I was left wondering. Although I shall never know, I would put money on the fact that it was the same fish that I had caught about 3 weeks earlier at 11.07. The feel on the rod was exactly the same and very distinctive. I would like to think it is alive and well and is starting to get into condition, because it has the potential to be a very big fish indeed.
