Martin Gay was always a good read whatever the book or magazine. I always enjoyed his no-nonsense approach and the wealth of information he imparted. Nothing about his previous accounts, manner of delivery, or the general nature of the chap that I gained through his words, ever led me to believe he had lied. I can believe it of some.... many other angler/writers but not in this case.

I`m going to be controversial in the name of good angling. He`s caught a beautiful fish but in my honest opinion that`s probably a 40-42lb fish at best.

Update : I`ve just seen a better photo and am happy it`s close to what he said actually.

I would suggest that Martin is not able to give us the full story and that this is a subject that should be put aside whilst we can enjoy and respect all the great stuff Martin did.

Yes...hear hear.... I'd hate to see this thread degenerate into the bile and vitriol that Haunted the Fishing Magic site years back
Just one more cast love, and I'll be on me way home

The most precious places in the English landscape are those secretive corners,
where you find only elder trees, nettles and dreams. (BB - Denys Watkins-Pitchford).
