Coarse fishing/ Kenneth Mansfield
I’ve just received this book......
A bit grotty but readable.....
Looks very interesting with some very traditional methods tackle and bait being wrote about...
One reason for posting this is the picture .... cane rod and landing net handle and just a glimpse of a wicker basket !
I suppose you could say the chap in the photo is traditionally dressed too!
I wonder if he landed the fish ?????!!
Always look forward when walking or you might walk into a wall !

Not seen this book.Kenneth Mansfield was the General Editor of the " How to catch them" series of books and editor of several individual books in the series .They date from 1950s onwards, each a good read on specific fish and methods. Original first editions being the most desireable but later editions are much more affordable. If your new and interested in traditional methods etc check them out. However being 60+ years since penned they are not P.C. and totally acceptable in every regard. Tony

This book has been part of my small library for many, many years. I'm sure I enjoyed reading it.

I think we are singing from the same song sheet BB. By my ref to P.C. ( a concept I detest) was that in 60 yrs + we have come to accept the use of barbed hooks ,gaffs , live baits, lead shot, keep nets etc etc is left in the past. However period books have their own charm and are still full of good advice. It’s got a few chapters by different anglers such as roach fishing by capt. l. Parker .....Tonkin Wand wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 2:57 pm Not seen this book.Kenneth Mansfield was the General Editor of the " How to catch them" series of books and editor of several individual books in the series .They date from 1950s onwards, each a good read on specific fish and methods. This is interesting roach fishing with a slow sinking block of wood......
This is a method I’ve had varying success with in the past but using slightly different equipment.... but yes basically the same idea

Looks like he's been cutting section off his splitcane rod
My grandfather always had a drilled cork with just enough lead to make it sink in his tackle box. I don't think he ever used it mind....

Interesting that they used a different camera angle of the angler in subsequent editions, this is a first edition copy and my current favourite bath time read.... with a scotch of course
