"French type" rod rest.

Post by AshbyCut »

Thanks to Jim at The Vintage Fishing Company I've take possession of this delightfully quirky rod rest ... just a nice height to sit beside my seat.

Would be interested to know why its called 'French Type' as the earliest one I've found which is very similar was patented in 1884 by a C L Mathews [Ref No. 1919]. Perhaps Jim knows?

Interesting, Like that AC!
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

I have to say AC that it looks more like a rather strange tin opener :Chuckle:
There is no peace on earth like the peace of fishing in the early mornings

Although at least it is definitely a vintage tin-opener

I thought that French rod rests were forked sticks. This looks like something to rest your baguette on.

Very nice AC, but how does one mount a bite alarm on it?

Do you know I can't remember where I picked up the "French" angle (no pun intended!!) from - perhaps just my euro-friendly attempt to give our Gallic neighbours some credit for something piscatorial!

Really glad you like it AC - if you don't get on with it you can always use it to tie the dog to!!
