A 1960's ROD REST
I was at a Barbel Catchers regional meeting last night and a fellow member and friend, knowing my interest in anything old and quirky, gave me this rod rest. It is the sort of device that I would expect to come from Efgeeco, but I have never seen one exactly like it before.
Does anyone else have one, do they know the manufacturer, or have any other interesting information on it? By the way, he insisted on me showing him a picture of it being used in practice, so that should put paid to any bank-side credibility I may still have.

Hi Bob,
I have one that is very similar and thought it was from Efgeeco, but it is not marked. The rod rest head is a little different but it must surely have come from the same maker?

I made one of those in metalwork at school... don't remember what happened to it though... probably sold it or gave it away, like so much stuff I wish I'd kept...

Perhaps it is an early original Aitch? Or even an Efgeeco prototype before they got it right, like LD’s!

Re: A 1960's ROD REST
I think it was my last year in metalwork as I didn't take it after 3rd year secondary so it would have been made around 1972... I think it was modelled on the Teachers rod rest as he was always doing stuff like thisBob Brookes wrote: ↑Wed Jun 09, 2021 5:55 pm Perhaps it is an early original Aitch? It could even be better than an Aitch, it looks likes a Hardy, circa 1955.

I think they are of French origin. I'll check the catalogues later to see if I can find it.
