Yes the modern carpers have pretty much stuck to 50mm butt rings and 'cone of flight' patterns of few but big diameter guides. The 'power' shore casters of Namibia etc using big weights and large baits have moved to big fixed spools, braid and 'choker' style ringing patterns. Tournament casters have a few different camps of thought depending on reel type and casting weight but they are all using mono as that's the rules. Several ways to skin a cat

In the Felton day it would have been gut? Or Cuttyhunk type line? Much more like braid than mono. My first line was a terylene type and then came - ICI Luron!
