Some more old hooks and a float wallet

Post by Coral Maestro »

I bought this wallet a while ago and while having a closer look at it recently spotted these hook packets in a back pocket:

Brings back a few memories.
What do they know of fishing who know only one fish and one way to fish for him?

I remember using Pegley-Davies hooks to nylon back in the '70's but generally I tied my hooks direct to the mainline.

Nice little find well done CM.
I wonder were the model perfect hooks still being made in the 60's before Allcocks went by & by?

John.
They were still in the "Top Tackle" catalogue in 1965:

and also in the Noris Shakespeare Allcocks Angler's Guide in 1966:

Unfortunately, I don't have any catalogues after 1966 but they may still have been made after that date.
Maybe someone else has information on this?

Thanks for that CM I only have pre 1960 Allcocks guides,
I must try and get a couple from the 1960's for reference.

The Model Perfect brand still features in the 1968 catalogue, with the same K reference code numbers as above.

There is also a rather twee testimony to the quality of that hook in the same catalogue. Which cost 3 no less than 3 shillings of my 10' a week earnings doing jobs on the farm.

It never fails to amaze me the knowledge that can be picked up from this forum! Now I know who Dick Orton is - I have a fly reel that was made for him but had no idea who he was. Thanks for that :Hat:

These angler's guides cum tackle catalogues are a mine of information for the traditional fisherman.
