The details from the Fishing Gazette looking at the prizes and the money involved I would suspect that J Jevans would be at least 20-25 years old and would therefore have been born pre 1855.

There were weekly reports from all the major fishing clubs, The Sportsman, Sporting Life, Fishing Gazette, The Angler and other papers. The local papers also reported local matches. Coxon wrote in the Nottingham Guardian every week for 40 odd years.

There are some huge reports of fish caught but things dwindled as pollution rose.
