Fish life in the Test

Post by Peter Wilde »

Thought I'd add a link to a little video of mine. It doesn't quite match the criteria for being mentioned here, as it shown no fishing at all - and therefore no traditional tackle. However, it does show some desirably large fish just living their lives in the utterly beautiful clear water of the chalkstream River Test.

This was filmed in a few hours visit to the National Trust house and gardens at Mottisfont, which include half a mile or so of the riverbank. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. It can get very busy (I have edited out most of the sounds of screaming kids, etc) but as the disturbance is pretty constant the fish seem to ignore that. I don't think the fish in this stretch are ever angled for.

Lovely video Peter. I’m sure i saw a beautiful roach in there amongst all the brownies and chub ....
Trouble is, the fish just don't read the books......

I recall this place in Mottisfont coming on the market. IIRC it was leasehold. On banks of Test.

Oakley House.

Amazing river, full of life, roach of my dreams

How would you target roach like that without hooking every trout?

That's the Test conundrum Paul, it's like fishing in heaven and hell at the same time.
