Mr Green's Rod - A Chris Yates Film with Fallon's Angler

I'm particularly looking forward to this as I caught my first fish, in 1959, where the film was made :-)

The same year Chris visited the place before his return 59 years later!

I found through reading his articles and books, that our paths frequently crossed although I was unaware of that at the time. I have a suspicion that he was a 'guest' at one lake I had permission to fish, the reprehensible details of which I am keeping to myself until perhaps, one day, I might meet Chris ;-)

A lovely film and score (a soundclash between Satie and the Rod and Line series theme!). The way he explained the story of watching the girl fishing was the highlight for me and nicely carried by shots from the bridge and the view of the float from the bank. Well done Nick et al!

I've just watched the film. The location and story about the girl and coach trip bought back memories of Sundays out with Hastings and Bexhill District Angling Society.

I caught my first fish at Wallers Haven in 1959, it was a roach.



This is me, that first day, on a footbridge just below Middle Bridge. My mother didn't approve of fishing from the bridge incase I fell in.
I looked quite smart fishing in my Sunday best :-)

I really enjoyed that film . The venue and surrounding area looks a wild beauty and quite tough to fish. I’m also so impressed by the fishing sitting on the deck ( like in the Martin Bowler film). I’ve ( like others on here) followed CY since 1981 and there just something about his approach it shone through this and all the other stuff we watch... I’m not going to try and say what it is ...no need... Thanks to Fallons angler and great camera work Nick

After watching that I need to re-read 'Remembering Mr Green' in 'Casting at the Sun' and the reference to 'The Deepening Pool'. Lovely little film, I enjoyed that.
