Re: Waggler Fishing
Started fishing ages 14 in 1981. Waggler fishing was in its moment I think. We used them because everyone seemed to. Thames at Twickenham, Pangbourne. Still waters including on sliding rigs in gravel pits near Heathrow. One major attraction was less tangles.
Remember watching Hooked on TV 1982/3 all those top match anglers were doing nothing else
When I fished my porcupine quills bottom end only like a waggler at that time I thought I was making re inventing the old with the new..
Only later did I realise there are no rules
Some great names too
Zoomer, Onion, Ducker

......Trent Trotter, Pacemaker, straight and insert peacock ( oh 'er misses), flat top, dome top, antenna, crystal, the Missile, the spectacular dumpy and the hollow tip waggler utilised by non other than the Video King, Mark Wintle.Tench Dreamer wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 7:30 am

So many names for floats fished waggler styley.
Probably missed a few but people forget how universally effective the Waggler could be in the right paws.
Fatty still uses them as his go to floats and delights in beating those around him, especially on rivers.
So much so, with a very minor reference In the best book ever written about the Waggler, The Rising Antenna, on page 208....c'est moi.
At least Fatty believes it is so according to those who were there to witness such shenanigins
' I could have been a contender!' *
Ha, ha, ha!
If only Fatty had the brains he was born with, sadly a well known South American Junta had other plans......
As ever,.....

*Quote from Marlon Branflakes; On the Waterfront. That is In between twitching and chewing the interior of the car used in the famous scene with that other spectacular film scenery sprayer Rod Steiger........actors hey?
Say aye tae'a pie!

Re: Waggler Fishing
Absolutely brilliant Mark, I love your style and content, every time. Its a treat for me since I got Jim Baxter’s amazing book last week so I can look forward to your series as well. Chatting to Woody in his Hereford tackle shop yesterday about all this and he gave me a dozen peacock quills... lots to look forward to. Thank you again Mark.
Trouble is, the fish just don't read the books......
